You turn on your flashlight and point it downwards into the inky water beneath your boat. It creates a solid-looking beam traveling quite deep into the water. You enjoy the effect until a large shape crosses it. A moment later, the water next to you breaks and a creature emerges from below. The face of a massive, human-sized frog rises with waxy grey-green skin, a broad mouth, and tiny black eyes affixed on the far sides of its head. You sit in stunned silence as it regards you for a few seconds before opening its mouth and shooting its tongue across the several feet between you, hitting you hard in the cheek. The tip moves around your flesh as if to try to taste you as it wraps further around your face, smothering you. You reach out and grasp the creature's tongue with your hand and it immediately releases. It lets out a low, human-sounding moan before retreating below the water. Your face is left covered in its sticky saliva which has a putrid-sweet scent. You lean over the side and splash water on your face until you wash it off. Unfortunately, a hint of the scent remains on your skin. You can row your boat through the path in the reeds, or you can use your whistle. |
