You steer your boat into the passageway on the right. The water continues to flow more quickly with the ceiling of the cavern slowly lowering until you are forced to crouch to avoid hitting your head as a roaring sound ahead grows louder. You round a corner in the passageway and emerge into bright white light and are temporarily blinded. You feel the boat tip downward then lurch as it hits a larger, deeper body of water. You straighten up and open your eyes to find you are now outside in the bright sunshine. Your eyes follow a waterfall behind you up to a small opening on the side of the cliff face from which you must have emerged. You now float upon a small pond. The water around the edges is a clear blue-green that fades into an almost blackish blue at the center. Looking over the side of your boat, you realize you cannot see the bottom and are struck with the impression that it must be incredibly deep. The pond is surrounded by reeds several feet tall on every side. There is a single break in the reeds where a stream escapes the pond, forming a path through them. It appears to be wide enough to accomodate your boat. You can row your boat through the path in the reeds, or you can use your flashlight or your whistle. |
